Obama's "Yes, We Can" Message Resonates Among Oromo Americans
Gadaa.com News - March 1, 2008
As the 2008
Democratic presidential nomination builds momentum, a few
Oromo Americans have started their own personal fundraising outreach for the Obama
for America '08 campaign. Pointing out the failed Horn of African policies
of previous and current US administrations, which have acknowledged the human
rights violations being committed against the Oromo people by Ethiopia's current regime while doing little to
stop or prevent them, the "Oromia for Obama" fundraising outreach does call for
a change, "a change we can believe in," when it comes to the US
policy on the Horn of Africa.
Within a few
days, the outreach has already raised 32.5% of its goal ($1,000). The Obama
for America '08 campaign continues to wow the Washington political
establishment by relying heavily on small donations from ordinary Americans. The
"Oromia for Obama" fundraising goal of $1,000 is definitely a huge
amount when it's compared to Obama's average individual contribution of a couple
of hundred dollars. The "Oromia for Obama" outreach further stresses
the need for Oromo Americans to involve in American politics to help shape
America's policy towards Africa.
