Atlanta, GA will host the 14th Annual Oromo Soccer
Tournament from July 25th to August 2nd, 2009. The Oromo
Sports Federation in North America (OSFNA) once again
voted to send this annual event to the home of Barisa,
Arfanqalo, and Maca and Tulama.

The Fourth Annual Oromo Youth Leadership Conference (OYLC)
Dates: Wednesday July 22 to Friday July 24
Venue: Emory University (1615 Pierce
Drive, Atlanta, GA 30322)
The Fourth Annual Oromo Youth Leadership Conference
will be held at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia,
from July 22 – July 24 under the theme “Know
Yourself - Be Aware”. Everyone must check-in by
afternoon on July 21st and check-out by Saturday morning
on July 25th. This year’s OYLC will be structured in a
bit different way than previous ones to better reflect
the true intent of this conference, which is to empower
and better equip participants to be active and better
leaders in their community. There will be more hands-on
assignments and projects that will require everyone’s
participation during the conference, and less outside
speakers compared to previous years. There will also be
professional leadership trainers to guide us discover
our leadership potential.
The theme of the conference
will be “Looking for Opportunity in
Crisis: The Challenges of Freedom, Human Rights,
and Sustainable Development in Oromia and the
Horn of Africa”. There will be up to
seven panels on topics ranging from the role of
theology in social justice to human rights and
US foreign policy to the relations of Oromo with
other ethnic groups to topics on media and the
prevailing environmental pollution in Oromia.
