:: Feature - Oromo Personalities of the Month

1. Obbo Daoud Ibsa Gudina ... Chairman of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF)

2. Dr. Merera Gudina Jefi ... Chairman of the Oromo National Congress (ONC)

These two leaders may disagree on a number of issues regarding the Oromo people struggle for just peace, equality and prosperity in the Horn of Africa; however, they are leading two prominent Oromo organizations that are voicing strong opposition against the harsh and unjustifiable treatment of students by forces of the Ethiopian regime during the ongoing Oromo Students Movement.  Setting their differences apart, Oromo Website/Document Directory has chosen Obbo Daoud Ibsa and Dr. Merera Gudina as Oromo Personalities of the Month for being leaders of the Oromo organizations strongly denouncing the human rights abuses that are being committed on Oromo students by the Ethiopian regime. Oromos must not expect anyone, but themselves, to come to their own rescue.

Here is a clip from African Intelligence on their biographies:

:: Editorial - Marriage Between Orommuma and Ethiopianism

Orommuma ("Oromo Nationalism") and Ethiopianism are the two most dominant movements in the Horn of African empire of Ethiopia.  Orommuma advocates for the liberation of the Oromo people: culturally, socially, politically and economically, from the Abyssinian colonization.  The Abyssinian ruling regimes have been oppressing the Oromo people for more than 100 years since the conquest of the Oromo Land (Oromia) by Menelik II in the late 19th century.  During these colonial years under the "Ethiopian framework", the Oromo people have experienced the following: assimilation into the Abyssinian society at the expense of losing their culture, language, self-esteem, and economic and political power.  In order to avert this socio-politico-economic oppression, the Orommuma movement was born through the continued resistance of the Oromo people against the Abyssinian system of domination.
