Have you ever wondered why peoples from the rest of the Empire are never resettled in Abyssinia-proper (the northern Ethiopian empire)? Why is Tigray NOT accepting settlers from Gambella? Why is Gondar NOT accepting settlers from Hadiya? Why is Gojjam NOT accepting settlers from Somali Ogaden?

There is no other regions which are ethnically pure than Tigray, Gondar and Gojjam. And, the most absurd stuff is that oppressive elites from these regions call “OROMIYAA,” which is home to many diversified people living peacefully with the Oromo, as an “ethnic region.” The “ethnic regions,” to really use it in its true sense of the phrase, are Amhara and Tigray regions. Folks, for “Ethiopian UNITY,” shouldn’t Amhara and Tigray regions also reflect the average diversity found in the rest of the empire? Why not resettle other peoples to Abyssinia?

The above inquiries are not made to support the “resettlement” programs, but to show that “resettlement” programs in the Ethiopian empire are being used to depopulate the South and are part of the racist colonial policies of the Ethiopian empire.

Here’s a report from the Human Rights Watch on the ongoing Villagization in Gambella. In the mid-1980′s the Villagizaton program was undertaken in Oromiyaa, affecting millions of families, by the previous Abyssinian regime.
